Well hey there! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
It sure has been a while, hasn’t it?
I’ve been meaning to write, I just caught up in the living of life and didn’t make the time to do the writing of it. I’ve missed it, and you! So, welcome back if you’ve been here before and just a big ol’ welcome if you’re new here!
I hope 2016 has gotten off to a bright start and you’re feeling ready to rock this new year. Whether you have specific resolutions or not, the idea is just to be the best version of yourself!
For me, that involves making health and fitness top priority. Yup, while I’ve been away from the blog I’ve still been keeping up with my wicked healthy ways! I made sure to enjoy the holiday season to the fullest (helllloooo treats and wine!!!) but am feeling so ready to clean things up and recharge my workouts. Who’s with me?
An exciting development is that in December I started teaching my first group fitness classes! I just completed my group fitness certification (through AFAA) so had been really wanting to get my feet wet in the group fitness world. A friend of mine is a teacher and she organized a class for her and some of her colleagues at the school with me as their teacher, woot woot!
The workout is held twice a week in a conference room at their school, which means there’s no equipment available – but that’s okay, because we sweat and huff and puff plenty without any! Never underestimate the power of your own body weight.
Today, I’m sharing a workout similar to the ones we do in class.
Before my first class, I had Dan do the workout with me and he vouched for it’s intensity. Coming from a big, strong, tough guy like him, I considered that a compliment!
Here’s the format:
5 rounds consisting of 2 exercises in a round. Perform each exercise in that round for 1 minute, then repeat the round. Move onto the next round. Make sure to properly warm up, cool down, and hydrate!
As part of my own workout program, I perform these types of workouts twice a week, usually adding weights to certain exercises. If you’re looking to bust through a plateau, challenge yourself, and see results, these types of high intensity total body workouts could be the missing piece. Because let’s be real people, being an eliptical cardio bunny is sooooo out.
